Lonely Planet, one of the world’s largest travel guide publishers, has announced its Best in Travel ranking, in which Lithuania has been recognized as the second best tourist destination in the world for 2025. This is the highest rating ever earned by a country in the Lonely Planet rankings.

Lithuania first appeared on this list a decade ago: in the 2015 list of recommended travel destinations, our country took third place, and in 2018, the Lonely Planet guide included Vilnius in the top ten most recommended places to visit in Europe.

According to Olga Goncharova, head of the Public Institution “Travel Lithuania”, Lithuania’s cultural offer and national parks have been surprising famous people for many years. “Lithuania is an undiscovered gem of Europe,” she says, noting that the recognition is a gift to Lithuania and all Lithuanians who help create a welcoming, authentic experience for tourists.

The article published by Euronews.com highlights Lithuania’s five national parks, biodiversity and heritage, and presents Lithuania as a great choice for those tired of crowded European cities.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site is described as a place worth visiting not only for its significant role in the nation’s history and its stunning views, but also for its unique cultural heritage and convenient location. Lithuania’s most popular resort is described as a great place for kayaking, picnicking or just taking a walk.

The Curonian Spit National Park is especially recommended for birdwatchers and those who enjoy active leisure. For the latter, it is recommended to explore the Baltic Sea coast by bike.

Those planning to visit the Samogitia National Park are recommended not to miss the picturesque Plateliai Lake. In addition, the Cold War Museum operating in the park is also mentioned. It is located in the former Soviet Union ballistic missile launch complex.

The Aukštaitija National Park is presented as the oldest Lithuanian national park, which is unique due to its abundance of lakes. The article suggests visiting Ladakalnis, from which a panorama of the surrounding lakes opens up, and the Beekeeping Museum, with the help of which visitors can better understand Lithuanian beekeeping.

Finally, we invite you to visit the largest in Lithuania – Dzūkija National Park, which is characterized by an extremely diverse landscape. Here you can visit swamps, continental dunes, pine forests. It is noted that those arriving here can watch birds, participate in hikes organized by locals, and learn more about the mushrooms growing in Dzūkija.
